St Fillan’s golf course is a real gem and only 11 miles from Crieff, set quietly on a flat piece of parkland, the course is surrounded by mountains and forest. It is not unusual to see Sandy Lyle, The Open and The Masters champion, play at this very challenging course as he lives not too far away!
Just seven miles west of Crieff lies Comrie golf course. It is the home course of Curtis Cup player Carla Booth and her brother, Walker Cup player Wallace. Both are now professionals hence one good reason for giving you a preview of the nine-hole course set in beautiful woodlands.
Muthill is just 3 miles south of Crieff and six miles from Gleneagles, the venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup. It is one of those courses that would give the impression that you could knock shots off your handicap every time you play it. Nothing could not be further from the truth! Muthill is an undulating parkland course with well manicured greens, narrow fairways and wonderful picturesque views of the Grampian mountains and Strathearn. The club provides a welcoming approach to visitors and parties with catering offered from March to October.
When you arrive at Gleneagles you become instantly aware that you’re at a special venue as the location provides wonderful ambience that rarely exists at other championship golf courses.
The scenery is wonderful with the Ochil hills as a backdrop and a car ride through Glendevon to the east would inspire even the keenest of outdoor pursuit enthusiast. The whole estate is filled with golf and all that is good which surrounds this fine game.
