Nice course, reasonable long,
lots of water, lots of trees. A good course to force you to hit the
ball straight. If you can get on every fairway and then hit the greens not
to much problem, but that is easier said than done.
The facilities of the course are good. Nice Bar and food, good practice area,
although the driving range requires a uplift.
The course has some interesting holes, the best in my opinion is the 4th SI 2
379 Yards par 4, OB right, water left whole fairway slopes from right to left
and from tee to green is a large valley. Hit your drive to far and your blocked
out by the trees, not far enough and you struggle to reach. Very testing! Well
worth a visit!

Benton Hall is a course which deserves to be played at least once. It has matured
over the past couple of years and the drainage problems are all but rectified.
The closing 5 holes are probably the hardest run in anywhere in Essex. The signature
hole would probably be the par 5 15th, with an accurate drive required from a
elevated tee. This then leaves a long approach for the big hitter`s with a small
creek about 30 yards short of the green for those who fail to fly the ball the
whole way. Following this you have one of the few par 3`s where over 50% of golfers
prefer to lay up, especially if they are protecting a good score or the match
is tight! The 18th, another long par five is a tight driving hole with water
and ditches both sides of a fairway which in some places only measures 30 yards
in width. If you have not visited Benton Hall before then I can recommend a good
days golf.

The course has been what I would call 'tarted up' to a good standard to go along with the new posh 'country club' status (added a gym, pool etc. in june 06) the greens are usually in good nick (some times can be a bit fluffy when treatments are added but most of the time they are very true)Its good value but can be rather busy on Fridays as large group bookings stop even members turning up to play - probably one of the top 5 clubs in Essex - I never get tired of playing it.
