Course Review

1st HoleThis is s small 9 hole course, although it does have a decent par 5 and some tricky par 3's, the par 4's however are a bit short.

The fairways and tees looked alright but not quite normal standard and the greens need some attention. Some of the holes are very nice to play, the 5th is a very testing par 3, the 7th's approach shot into a green by the lake looks great and the 8th is all about hitting the right club straight as there is no room for error on either side.

There is a driving range which is a nice extra for a small 9 hole course and a very small practice putting green, the changing rooms were on the small side with only one shower but at least it is not a push button one.

The girl in the Pro Shop was very welcoming and provided us with the information we were after the only down point to the clubhouse and the staff there was that the bar was not open as they did not have enough visitors that day to justify opening it.

Favourite Hole

5th holeHole 5:
A par 4 from the whites, but a testing par 3 from the yellows.

This is quite a tight hole and we could see where they have cut back the trees on the right just in front of the green, a little tip, let them grow a bit, the tee shot would then require a shaped shot into the green or a bail out on the left although there still isn't that much room to play with.

I have been playing golf at this club for almost as long as it has been founded and while i do agree with some of the statements that have been made i feel that some are rather unfair.
the course was taken over only last year and when it was taken over it was not in very good shape at all. Since the course was taken over at the beginning of last year there has been too many improvements to list. The greens despite being below par, have been dramatically improved thanks to the hard work of the ground staff over the summer. As a member here I am aware of the planned improvements and the improvements that have been made due to large investments from the new owner and hard work from all of the staff. My last point is that the bar was not open as we struggle to get enough people to come into the bar and the course due to the bad name that the club had in the local community.

I've been playing this course regularly since October 05 and can say that the current management are doing their best to continually improve it. It's not the most testing of courses and the majority of the Par 4's are very short, but as a course to keep your swing "in" it does the job very nicely. The par 3 8th is tricky if you don't hit the green and there are 2 holes where water can come into play if you are slightly astray off the tee. Driving range is good, but needs a little sprucing up.

I'm a regular at Blackwater and despite traveling vast distances to play other courses I still go back. Although from the outset the course is short it still give a good test of control as on a lot of holes a wayward short is often in the trees or the laverns the cross the course. The greens have been improved and after talking to all the green keepers they are continually looking at ways to improve. My only negative is the bunkers need improving. There locations are either punishing a badly hit shot anyway's such as the 2nd, or no concern such as the par 5 6th which id need a 7 iron to hit from the white or yellow tee. he only bunker which can cause a head ache it the one guarding the 9th but like all the bunkers there very easy to escape from and more annoyed you lost the extra yardage. As far as the "18th" goes its normally a warm and friendly environment with great staff, but a word of warning hats on properly!!!!
