Course Review

Open and flat course over three farm fields with snaking fairways and raised undulating greens. Holes 1-6 relatively similar with most of the danger around the greens which are lightning quick. Pitch at the flag and even in wet weather the ball fly's away like spit off a hotplate into waiting bunkers and water hazards. The worst of these is the Par 4 6th where the green is best approached from the left and at about 45 degrees from the fairway. To the left and behind is a water hazard, while in front and right are large bunkers.

6th hole
6th Green as viewed from behind.

The next two holes are fairly easy which then takes you to the 9th, a dogleg par 4 back to the club house past the driving range to an three tired green with an evil water hazard out of site to the right. The temptation is here to cut across the driving range but even the big hitters fail. Things get interesting on the 10th "Canal turn". Teeing off parallel with the first with a similar Right hand dog leg you are faced with a wall of 8 foot high hedge beyond which is the green out of sight to the right corner of the fairway. Don't even think off trying to cut the corner.

10th hole
Canal turn on the 10th, Green lies behind the bush on the right.

The 11th par 5 is a double left right dogleg whilst the short par 3 12th will encourage the use of a tee as scuff it here and its in the water pit only feet in front of the tee. The run in is quite straightforward with the hardest hole carded as the 14th. Personally I would have said the 17th. A long Par 4 tight by the course standards where you tee off from a mound some 10 feet high over two bunkers to a snaking narrow fairway. Beyond that and the easy looking green hides a nasty water pit just behind the bushes only feet from the green.

Overall the course is in good condition with only the 8th green in need of serious repair. I've always received a warm and friendly welcome here and for us high handicappers a great course. When the wind gets up the lack of tree cover would cause you to think you where on a links course. I've played here several times carding my best ever score of 91 well below my handicap of 28 Plus! So I can highly recommend it. Good green fee's too with an out of season all day rate cheaper then most pitch and putts.

Favourite Hole

Hole 18:
180 yard par 3.

8th hole
The par 3 8th hole, when against the wind can play very long.

Personally the 18th. Its dead straight Par 3 but the tree lined fairway leads straight down to the Bar in the clubhouse. A welcoming sight! Beware though, out of bounds is Right and the 9th with it's water hazard between the two green lies to the left behind the trees.
