Course Review

A well laid out course, hilly in parts but walking is not too hard. Set in the Chiltern hills the course  has some great views, lots of trees but not much water. You start off with quite an easy par 3, just a couple of bunkers to avoid & make sure you don't hit it long. The 2nd however has a tree that stands at about 180-200 yards away nearly in the middle of the fairway which means a very tight tee shot down the left of the fairway or the brave could try to go over it.

2nd hole
The tight tee shot on the 2nd, long hitters could attempt to clear the tree.

The 3rd plays back next to the 2nd with quite a wide open fairway then comes the shortest hole on the course, but you have to be accurate with your distance, you just cannot afford to miss this green. The 5th is a short par 4 but being on the slope of a hill you have to pick a landing spot for your drive that will not dive right into the trees, the 6th is a must hit green too unless you come up short as it is also cut into the side of the hill.

5th hole
The 5th green tucked away to the left with it's left to right sloping fairway.

The 7th plays back along the lower slopes of the hill leading to the 8th with it's raised green where you just cannot afford to go left. The front nine finishes with a blind tee shot and a pond to avoid on your approach. The back nine starts with another blind tee shot, just make sure you do not stray too far right, then comes a nice long danger free par 4 where you can have a go with your driver. The 12th has a bunker to catch anything not struck too cleanly, those who are not very long off the tee may find they have to lay up to it. The 13th is not too tricky but again you have to make sure you do not go long then comes the 14th with a very good chance of a birdie after two well struck shots.

15th hole
The 15th hole can be deceiving, two good tee shots from us though.

The 15th looks simple but tends to play shorter than it looks so choose your clubs wisely and the 16th hole does not really have any danger apart from if you stray too far left. The penultimate hole is an interesting one, it is short enough for an attempt to drive the green but with a bunker and a large tree stump in the way it going to have to be one very good shot to pull it off, we suggest a lay up with a 7 iron to leave a short pitch into the green. The 18th is another blind shot but once up on the fairway just make sure to avoid the pond on the right and you could finish with a birdie.

17th hole
The green has quite a bit of protection to discourage you going for it in one.

The club has just had some work done to the clubhouse and it is looking very good indeed, showers and changing rooms were superb and we enjoyed the relaxing drink in the bar afterwards.

Favourite Hole

Hole 7:   355 yard par 4.

7th hole
View of the 7th fairway from the tee, it looks quite a severe slope.

Not a long par 4 by any means but the fairway is on the side of a steep hill so any ball landing on the fairway will run from right to left down the slope. You are then left with a blind second shot over the ridge and down to the green unless you have hit a cracking drive past the slope. You have to hit the green on this hole, come up short and your ball will hit the down slope and shoot through the green. Off to the left and you are amongst trees, off to the right is probably the safe side to miss but still leaves a tricky pitch across the green.
