Course Review
This is one of our favourite
courses, definitely worth a visit. The course was first established in
the early nineteen hundreds with just six holes. It was then extended
to nine and eventually eighteen in 1992.
The fairway's are tree-lined with beech yew and pine trees, set in the Chiltern
Hills it was once described as being 'part of Gods little acre'.
The 1st is nothing to write home about but then you enter the delightful rolling
hills of the rest of the course.
Holes worth a mention are the 2nd with it's valley to
cross to reach the fairway, the 7th will have you trying to decide what club
to hit from the tee, same problem with the 11th. The 13th green is tucked away
in a corner so if the tee shot is not in a perfect position your not going to
get on the green.
The secretary (then a Mr Simon Thornton) when asked
what the course was like replied 'There are some ups and some downs but not many
flat bits', quite a good description actually.Very hilly in parts that's why
the reasonably short 374 yard par 4 16th is stroke index 1 as it is all uphill.
We have been here every year since we started this website and I'm sure we will
keep this up.
Favourite Hole
Hole
8: At 160 yards long but about 80ft up above the tee area this
par 3 is a very tough hole.
Take anything less than a five iron and you will
not reach the small postage stamp green perched on top of the steep cliff!
This hole definitely plays longer than the yardage suggests.

Outstanding!! Very picturesque. The members we met could not have made us feel
more welcome. If anyone is thinking of playing it for the first time-you'll love
it. The 1st and the 10th are quite bland but the rest are excellent. A word of
warning-if your not hitting it straight-you'll struggle.

This course is hard work; several steep climbs, especially from the 8th tee to the green. Irrespective of this, it's a lovely course and one that should be on the "must play" list.
When we played it, one afternoon in mid June, the course had been closed in the morning, due to heavy rainfall. Despite the rain, the greens were fast and true. From the time we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. The pro was very helpful and when we got to the 10th tee, there was a member playing on his own. He asked to join up with us, as we were a two ball, and we had a very enjoyable back 9 together. He, also, showed us how important fairway position is on this course. We put away the driver on a few holes; followed his advice and used a long iron. It's certainly a course where you have to think carefully about your tee shot.
Will definitely pay another visit here, before winter. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.

We have played this friendly course a number of times and never fail to be impressed by the steady progress of attention to detail. The T boxes and Greens and paths are always being improved. It is a hilly course with some tight fairways but has such a mixture of holes that it suits the big hitters as well as those with good short games. The club house is set over the 18th green with a lovely terrace overlooking the hills away toward Aylesbury. Well worth a visit.
