Course Review

We have visited this course after another 9 holes were added to make it a full 18. It was very hot the week we played here and the course was quite dry, the fairways were firm and so were the greens. The ball was rolling a long way and made the par 4's on the back nine very reachable.

5th hole
The downhill 5th hole where club choice is very important.

The 1st hole is a dogleg to the right with a bunker at the right hand corner and some mounds down the middle, hole 2 is very reachable but a ditch running in front of the green makes you think about it. You need to be careful if you lay up too as Rick took a 7 iron here to lay up & still reached the ditch. Next comes a triple run of par 3's, the first two are flat and straight forward, the 5th hole is downhill and needs to be judged right.

6th hole
The 6th hole goes back up the hill to a raised green.

The 6th hole is back up the hill to a raised green, it's a short par 4 but you are not going to drive the green on this one. The 7th is another short par 3 that you can reach with a sand iron, but it is downhill and through a gap in the trees so it looks good. Get a good drive away up the right side on the 8th and you may run on to the green then comes another short par 3 to finish the front nine. The changes in elevation help but you get the feeling that these added holes have been squeezed in as quite a few of them are very short.

7th hole
The 7th hole with it's downhill shot to the green through the trees.

The 10th is another short par 4 but you do not want to over hit your approach as the water behind will collect anything long. The 11th is a good par 3 with a very long green so club choice will make all the difference here, we are back on the original course now and you can tell by the increase in length of the par 4's. The 12th needs two good shots to reach and you would be mad to go for the green on the 13th as it bends to the right just before the green, hit it long and you are down the hill and into the trees.

11th hole
The very long green on the 11th hole, how about this birdie putt?

The 14th is a blind par three with the green in a sunken bowl, it is quite forgiving as miss the green slightly left or right and the slopes should bring the ball back to the green. The 15th is the one and only par 5 that is reachable with two solid shots then comes the 16th par 3 over a valley to the green. The short par 4 dogleg 17th where you have to cut the corner if you are taking wood and finally the 18th, a testing finishing hole that needs a solid tee shot to give you any chance of getting on in two.

16th hole
The view from the tee of the 16th hole.

Like we mention before the extra holes seem to be crammed in as the first nine is very short but we enjoyed the chances of the birdie putts from the par 3's, also we have to mention the food at this course, the quality and quantity of the food we had after our round was superb, very good value for money.

Favourite Hole

Hole 15:   476 yard par 5 slight dogleg to the right.

15th hole
The approach to the 15th from the middle of the fairway.

Hit a good drive and you can reach this hole in two. If you are off the fairway though then you are probably stuck behind trees. The fairway dips at halfway and falls about 50 feet or more then climbs back up as you approach the green, which is not really protected by any bunkers apart from one which will catch anything falling short right.

Played the course on the 28th June 2003.
Course was playing well. Some of the holes will be easy for good players. The course is set in a stunning location and when we played the sun was out nice and bright. We had an excellent game on a fantastic course and at £20 well worth it. Throughout this is a course that does not overcharge you in any way what it does do is provide excellent value for money.

Yet another little hidden treasure. Great course for beginners and for those who just want a good round of golf in wonderful surroundings. Best played in summer on a lovely evening. A little cracker.

Played here several times before new 9 holes was opened and for a 9 hole course was quite enjoyable albeit not difficult. A further 9 holes have been added or should i say crammed in. Now there are 8 par 3's and the whole course is not much over 4000 yards!! On a plus note the greens are nice but on the whole not a challenging course and more for beginners.

Have to agree with previous review this used to be an average 9 hole course but has become a bit laughable with the extra "holes". I advise leave your driver at home you won't need it. If you are organizing a team society day this is the ideal course for team game of 3 clubs and a putter - that's all you will need. Agree that the greens are nice but you don't have far to go to get there - all in all very short.
