Course Review
Three courses set in mature
parkland countryside.
The main course is quite hilly and it can be hard walking around this course.
The first nine holes are quite open but the second nine has more trees and bushes
along the fairway's to catch wayward drives. When we played the course the greens
were very firm and you had to land your ball just before them and roll on otherwise
you were through the green and were chipping back.
Favourite Hole
Hole
17: 500 yard plus par 5 dogleg to the right.
You need a drive of at least 230 yards to get to the corner of this dogleg and
it is not easy because the fairway is not flat it slopes away from the corner
of the dogleg making your second shot longer. The second is blind and if you
reach the green then you are a mighty long hitter.

I played this course on Sunday 20 August 2000. A wonderful course! Although the
greens have been aired they were still quiet playable. A little hard to stop
the ball on the greens but after 2 days of baking sunshine I could not expect
any better.
The Course is beautiful, open at time and some very challenging holes that require
well thought out tee shots. I was penalised three times for long straight tee
shots that ended up on the wrong side of the fairway to attack the green.
The rough was forgiving in place and totally uncompromising in others. Lack of
water hazards is compensated for by some well placed bunkers.
Overall a 8/10 day and excellent value for money course that is well managed
and has all the facilities to make a great day out. I will definitely be back
soon.

Without doubt the best public course in Surrey, I was one of the first people
to play it some twenty five years when I was only twelve or so. The only changes
to the course since then are the shortening of the first and some cutting back
of rough to help speed of play.
It is quite a long course with individually created holes with very good use
of the hilly terrain around Old Woking. I think the third is the hardest being
over 440 yards dog leg to the left with a steep climb to the green and left to
right camber. The green is small and flat but with rough and trouble all around.
The fifth is an elevated lovely tee with the green having a huge tree and bunker
straight in line from the tee shot. This makes the approach if you want par hard
as the green has a massive drop away both to the right and behind.
I agree that the 17th is a hard hole but the green does let the hole down being
without any difficulty. I have played the course at least a hundred times and
never seen anyone get on the green for two and I can hit close to 300 yards on
a good day (with the wind behind me and luck!)
The only disappointment is the 18th which is a flat boring short par three to
finish.
Over the last ten years a nice par three and nine hole par four have been added
which together with a very nice clubhouse a large pro shop make it a great place
to enjoy great value golf.

What a shocker played a society day was 5 hour round and with no dress codes
people buying drinks at the bar with clubs on their backs serious golfers beware
this is pay and play in it's true form!

Played this course yesterday and can honestly say it is one of the best pay and plays I have played. I have played Pine Ridge in Camberley a few times and it is woefully overplayed and in terrible condition - well Hoebridge is the antidote. In particular the pin positions yesterday really made you think and the greens weren't the usual flat affairs of other courses in the area.
