Course Review
Parkland course in a conservation area, has a nice variety of trees and two rivers run through the course. The 14th-16th stretch of holes are very well thought out and quite picturesque.
Favourite Hole
Hole 14: A short dogleg par 4 that should be easy but, there is a local rule on this hole. There is a post on the right hand side of the fairway about 180 yards from the tee and the local rule says that you cannot play for the green until you pass the post, any ball on the right hand side of the post before you pass it is out of bounds. This hole needs an accurate iron off the tee to be in a position to go for the green.

A challenging course that demands accuracy instead of length. 'Heath'
is the word, with most holes flanked by purple gorse & bushes. Bring
some extra golf balls, or alternatively buy some from the tramps who
spend their days finding stray balls and selling them on to desperate
slicers. The architects have clearly decided to have a bit of fun in
places where they realised they didn't have enough land to play with
- several of the holes are 300 yardish par 4s with a 90 degree dogleg
(a bit of a false challenge I think.) Strangest of all is the fact that
to access the 10th tee you have to walk through a 20 ft tunnel which is only
5 ft high. Best hole, in my opinion is the 16th. A really clever and picturesque
par 4. I nailed my tee shot and the slither of fade I had (inadvertently) put
on the shot left me with a four iron over the river, a tree and uphill to the
centre of the green. Just watch out for the jets groaning into the air from Heathrow.

This is one of the best value courses around and is a fair challenge. The first
9 are fairly typical common land course, bumpy fairly hard ground. The greens
are generally slow, but pretty straight forward.
As mentioned, the 10th - 13th are accessed under a tiny bridge and are in a narrow
strip of land literally on the approach to one of Heathrows runways. These are
simple holes and a chance to put a nice run together before the 14th onwards
gets tough.
The 15th and 16th would sit well on any course anywhere, outstanding holes that
require length and accuracy to par. They do get pretty waterlogged in winter,
but all credit to the council and green keepers for improving the situation.
I like the relaxed atmosphere, they do not take themselves too seriously and
staff and other players seem pleasant.

I played this course for the first time on 12 May 2005. I think the weekday green
fee was £9.50 for 18 holes.
I found the course quite tough first time around,
and lost too many balls to put together a good score. But it was fun and I'm
looking forward to playing there again.
Certainly the last four tree-lined holes
are the most challenging and attractive, but there are some other memorable holes
too. The par 3 fifth is a great-looking hole from the tee.
You won't need your
driver much on this course, accuracy with long and medium irons are more important.
There are plenty of shallow bunkers protecting the small greens, but the main
hazards are the rough, the tight fairways and placing your tee shot accurately
for the dog-leg holes.
The drawbacks are the condition of the greens and fairways,
that some tee shots are blind, and that the course is quite short.

I have played several courses but Hounslow is the cheapest and the most challenging one and I must say one of the most interesting. It priviledges accuracy over distance. It is an excellent indicator of where your game stands as it is not forgiving at all and require decision making before many holes, the more I play it and the more i like it. If you can score low you are a good player and a lucky putter given the state of some greens.

I am now 16 years old and started playing when I was 13. I never really improved until I played here a few times. You don't need a driver as any thing from as short as a 7 iron is relevant to get to the green. The 13th hole is a par 4 drivable with a 4 iron even for the average player like myself. The down side is tramps selling balls, youths hanging round greens. Although the strangest thing I have ever seen on a golf course was a man walking down the side of the fairway and burnt out cars on some fairways.
