Course Review
Short but nice little course
that now has 18 holes, looks like it could get a little congested in the
summer on the first tee but we enjoyed our round. The teeing areas were
fine for this time of year and the fairway's did not have one boggy patch
on them.
The course starts with a nice par 4 that needs
a slight left to right movement of the ball, some long hitters will be
tempted to try for the green but the ditch would probably put a stop to
that.
After a short par 3 you then get to the new section of the course.
The areas around the greens of these new holes have
had great attention to make them very nice to play on, but the fairways need
a little work at present, still a little too bumpy with rabbit holes here and
there.
Overall the greens were in great condition and certainly
not flat. The clubhouse facilities were good as well, we must give a special
mention to some great showers and the fact that if you live within 5 miles of
the course you can get a free courtesy car lift home.
Addition to original review: Can get a bit busy & a few benches at the tee
areas would be nice.
Favourite Hole
Hole
9: 406 yard par 4
Longest par 4 on the course and a difficult one to hit in 2. The fairway
slopes from left to right all the way along the hole so you end up having
a second shot lie with the ball below your feet, meaning you could easily
slice the ball on your approach.
If you do hit a slice there is a steep bank on the right that will almost
always take your ball down into the pond, not an easy approach shot especially
if you are not very long off the tee and you are left with a long iron.

This is a nice little course but I find all the holes are on top of each other, and in cetrtain places the course is very dangeours.

What attracted me to be a member here was the price - Unlimited golf for £55 per month, no restrictions, no joining fee, discounts and hand pulled real ale at the bar. Brilliant. Unfortunately as time has passed the limitations of Huntswood have become more and more obvious. I am now looking for another place to go. Why?
The main problem is they've tried to squeeze too much into too small a space. With a bizarre, tangled layout, it is necessary to walk right in front of others hitting their drives - three times. At least two tees are much too close to greens, and two pairs of greens are so near to each other they're almost touching - with people walking in between of course. The cry of fore at Huntswood is like the songs of the birds.
No par fives and only one short par three means Huntswood's course is seriously unbalanced. Short or very short par 4s dominate. There are two ponds neither of which are used creatively. People walk away from Huntswood muttering "Never again" because of the danger of being hit. Solvable with a little imagination... yet the management's priorities for improvements this winter? New tees further back in weird places creating yet more opportunities for golfers to cross each other; and refurbished toilets in the clubhouse.
To conclude, come to Huntswood and I'm sure you will probably enjoy your round. However, come here often and you may well soon be dreaming of going elsewhere. A person I met a while ago put it best: "This used to be the best 9 hole course around, and now it's a skanky 18 hole one."

Sadly have to agree with most of the other comments used to be one of the best nine hole courses I had played and was always in exceptional condition. The new holes however are laid out very strangely and are in many cases far too close to each other. Could be improved with a few nets or bit of thought with regards to tee placements but at the moment a bit tight. Still a lovely little course but watch out for errant tee shots !!!

A delightful course with some interesting sloped fairways. A difficult opening drive, narrow but short. Have enjoyed seeing it begin to mature.

I found huntswood a very good course to play speaking as a person who only just started golf a few years back. however, regretably I do have to agree that the course layout is very packed in and therefore can become dangerous. Overall the quality of the course is generally very good all year round.
