Course Review

Public pay & play course that has a bit of a history it used to be an 18 hole course built on land owned by the Blackwell family in 1910, who then sold the estate to London County Council in 1946 who made it a municipal course in 1947 with a par of 78, but it was closed in 1954. Now just a 9 hole course it has got some nice features on it's layout.

Don't turn up here and expect carpet like greens and fairways but for the beginner just starting out or the experienced golfer wanting a bit of practice it is well worth the visit.

The terrain is great for a golf course there are loads of humps and bumps all over the place and if they could get the greens to a better standard this course would be a little gem.

We challenge anybody to go round here under par for your handicap as the holes are quite challenging, from the tight line off the tee at the 3rd to the huge bunker in front of the 5th and the bank in front of the 9th.

If you are local to this course and want to teach your kids golf or fancy a practice round before the weekend competition, go and visit Oxhey and you may help them increase their profits and provide better greens and facilities.

Favourite Hole

Hole 3:   281 yard par 4 sounds like an easy birdie.
3rd hole
This hole should be easy, but the trees encroaching from the right are intimidating.

You have two choices really, aim for the gap down the left of the fairway or blast your tee shot over the trees down the right.

I find this a very good practice ground for the leaner or experienced golfer, plenty to challenge you and good value for £8 during the week for 18 holes!

The greens are small so if you learn to master the game here then the other greens in Hertfordshire look enormous!

Good fun and nice staff.

A good ground for the beginner golfer, being enough of a step up from pitch-and-put courses, without beinig overly challenging.

The holes are well designed, with large bunkers strategically placed, although they are only difficult to hit out of after heavy rain (due to puddling!)

The third hole is particularly challenging - thick grass off the fairways, coupled with two large oaks encroaching either side of the fairway at 150yards, and a small greens means achieving par is a bonus for the amateur golfer. Last time I played, I took a nine!

My only criticism would be the poor condition of some of the greens. They tend to merge with the fairway, are weedy, and a little too lumpy for some tastes.

Overall though, a good allround course with plenty of challenges to offer. Also excellent value for money. (£6 for 9 holes, £8 for 18)

This course is good value - current price is £9 for 9 holes at the weekend. It is indeed a step up from pitch and put but with three par threes of roughly 200 yards, plenty of bunkers, banks and strategically placed trees it's no pushover. The greens are a bit rough and ready and tiny. Friendly staff.
