Course Review

Parkland public pay & play course in good condition for the time of year that we played it with a good variety of holes for a small course. The tree-lined fairway's on some holes make sure this course is not too open and the undulating greens make putting a positive exercise.

2nd hole
The par 3 second hole with it's bunkers guarding the green.

You have to be careful on the 1st not to overshoot the green, as the river Brent runs behind it, this river also comes into play on the 4th & 6th holes. The par 3's on the course are all good yardages, not too short to be just a pitch & a putt and not too long for the average golfer to reach in one. On the two occasions we have played here the wind was against us on the 9th, making it a rather long Par 5 with not much chance of getting on in two.

The clubhouse is nothing to write home about and with not many other facilities you wouldn't want to host a society day here. They do get the odd beginner golfer going round with just a couple of balls and half a bag of clubs but we enjoyed the course, so for a practice or a round in the winter this course is just the ticket.

Favourite Hole

Hole 6:   431 yard par 4.

6th hole
Looking down the 6th fairway from the tee.

Very slight dogleg to the right, two good shots needed to get to the green on this hole. The perfect line is over the trees just in front of the tee, otherwise a slight fade is required. Even with a good tee shot you will still be left with a long iron to the green, the fairway is narrow and the river Brent runs the whole length of the hole on the left with a ditch & a pond on the right.

Very cheap and not particularly cheerful municipal course, often played by non-golfers / complete beginners. Quite a rough area also, ensuring a slow (at weekends) and quite often hassled round of golf. (on one occasion one gentleman was playing with his Staffordshire (pit ?) bull terrier tied to his bag). The course I would least like to play on.

A course reminiscent to the Somme. On this mud-fest in December, the boggy fairways were only avoided by aiming for the rough. Gene Kelly would have liked the moist greens. Bunkers to the 4th green are supplemented with unturfed banks of clay. Worms and overexcited dogs abound. You can get joke golf balls in the shop.

The holes are nothing special, but it's great for an uncomplicated afternoon knocking a ball around. In midweek it's six quid for nine holes, and you don't have to worry about booking a tee time - just turn up.

Suddenly thinking "I'd like to play golf this afternoon" and being able to do it is a comparatively rare experience so close to central London.

The main problems are the number of players who don't understand about holding up those behind them - I once took two and a half hours for the nine
when stuck behind a five-ball of beginners!

But is is very friendly. I usually turn up on my own and usually find some amiable company to knock a ball around with.

If you are a golfer, steer clear. This is for beginners only.

It can be slow, but the drainage added recently has vastly improved the fairways. A very friendly course despite the slightly rough area. I have never had any problems there. The club is flourishing and there are competitions EVERY weekend of the year except 51 and 52. All day breakfast available in the cafe.

I played this course last night, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The course was quiet, the greens in good shape and the course in better condition than some of the other reviewers lead me to believe. I can only suggest that the owners have spent a bit of cash improving the course condition, and me and my friends had a thoroughly good time. It's not a beginners course, however, it's not a huge challenge. But that said, I would recommend giving it a shot and seeing what you think.

Perivale won't ever make the "top 100" list but there is a bit of golf to be played here no matter what the players' ability. It is one of the better nine hole courses in west London (not much competition I know!) and although flat, there are a few interesting holes. There is really only one poor hole, the short par 4 third and, to be honest, only one really good hole, the long par 4 sixth, but the others, to a greater or lesser degree, will test most players' ability. The course is kept to a reasonable standard and work is ongoing as there are several bunkers on the course not shown on the scorecard. All in all not the worst place to spend a modest green fee.

I like this course as it's got a good mix of holes. The 6th hole is tough - Peter Allis said it's one of the best par 4s in the south east (that might be ********). Also, nice to finish with a par 5 which allows you to get your woods and long irons out the bag. I don't find this course particularly easy, but then I am quite rubbish.

Great course for new golfers. Go before 10 ish, otherwise you will be stuck behind some bad players. Otherwise great value for money, with loads of options to use your driver, 3 wood and irons. Price is great as well. Can be slow on some days, but everyone needs to learn to play somehow.
