Course Review

We have visited this club before but this is the first time we have reviewed it. Set in 210 acres of mature parkland most of this course looks beautiful, the first few holes though are a kind of link-style and the young trees are still very small. The rest of this course has some magnificent old trees, lakes and small brooks. The greens are USGA spec and we putted well, the ball does seem to roll well on them. The fairways and teeing areas were all well managed with some large bunkers along some holes with nice soft sand in them for a change. Overall a well managed course with some great looking holes after the first few.

Favourite Hole

Hole 17: A great par 5 this, at 513 yards you may think it is reachable in 2. Well to do that you need not only a long drive but a well positioned one. The hole doglegs round to the right around a lake with a little brook running along the left of the fairway. A large well positioned tree half way along this hole is the key to a good score, nearly everywhere you place your ball in the fairway you can bet that this tree will interfere with your next shot, either blocking your approach to the green or even blocking your next shot up the fairway, once the tree is negotiated a short iron over the lake is all you will need if you have taken 2 up the fairway.

Played here a few times over the last year. Even though I never play well here I love this course. For me the place just oozes class from the excellent clubhouse and surroundings to the course itself, tee boxes are in great condition with great markings, fairways are superb, greens are of the highest quality.
The first 5 holes will mature in time - at the moment though you get a small taste of links golf before heading to the more mature part of the course. The bunkers have the softest sand I think I've seen on a course which gives the whole course that professional feel. Not the cheapest course you'll play in this area but I think the green fees are reasonable considering what you get. I'll keep going back.

I have played here a lot of times and it always has been in great condition. The first 3 holes have a links feel about them and when the wind blows they can play very hard. The best hole is the par 5 17th which is a challenge but is a great hole. My favourite hole is the 8th reachable of the tee with a driver but u can play as little as an 7 iron off the tee and have a short iron in, it is protected by two bunkers at the front and water at the back.

Having been a member here for 3 years now I’m sure my review will sound a little biased but it’s a lovely track.

One thing that over my time here that stands out is the quality of the greens, apart from when they have their essential maintenance they are top notch. I have been lucky to to have played some top courses and even some of those have not hit the mark with the greens like Richings.

The course itself is an honest test of golf for all abilities. I have since my time here gone from a 25 to a 13 handicapper. I would not like anyone to think that this makes it an easy track by any means as now the rough has been allowed to grow you can get yourself in some serious trouble so pay attention.

There is quite a lot of water dotted about that will keep you concentrated and some of the ruff can leave you hoping you wont need your calculator to add you score up!

After your round you will find the staff second to none. With a very nice main clubhouse and newly equipped spike bar showing Sky Sports you can’t go wrong. The food is also top notch with plenty of specials along with the extensive main menu. Try the carvery on a Sunday for the money u won’t get better!

I recently had my wedding at Richings Park and would like to say to anyone thinking of doing the same they would be hard pressed to find a venue that would offer better all round facilities. Give it a go I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

While looking for a club to join the manager here offered me a free round which was jolly nice of him. The course is fine but oh! The motorway noise! The noise of the adjacent M25 hovers over the whole of Ritchings Park. On the nearest holes to the road the noise becomes an roaring monster. Planes from Heathrow add to the din at regular intervals. There is no getting away from it. That ruined it for me I am afraid.
