Course Review
When we visited we played the
Wood & the Lakes courses so we cannot comment on the Park course although
we are sure the 3 courses are to the same standard.
First of all the we have to mention what good condition the course was in, the
tees were perfect the fairways were great and the greens, well the greens were
a delight to putt on.
We played the Lakes first and we must warn you that most of the water on this
nine is not visible as you line up your shot, unless you get the yardage chart
you may well find yourself hitting what you think is a cracking shot only to
find your ball is now at the bottom of one of the lakes.
A good example of this is the 20th hole. Get a reasonable
drive and you will be about level or just before the ditch. As you can see from
the picture the two lakes look like areas of rough as you can't actually see
the water.
Other holes worth a mention on this nine are the 24th,
which is a very short par 4 and some may be tempted to go for the green. This
however will bring the lake, again not visible from the tee into play.
Rick played this hole like this, 7 iron off the tee to the middle of the fairway,
sand wedge onto the green, it's not all power and distance off the tee.
The 25th is a nice short par 3 but if the pin is over
on the right the you have to carry the lake and the bunker to get anywhere close.
The Wood course starts off with the what we think is
the best looking holes.
The short par 5 10th is made slightly more difficult by being uphill all the
way with a blind second shot, play it sensibly and you will have a good chance
of a birdie. The 11th is our favourite hole (see below) and the 12th is a very
picturesque par 3 that depending on pin position can have the trees obstructing
your line. After the 13th you come back out of the wooded areas into more open
territory with some more forgiving holes, the 16th however has a tough approach
shot with a raised green and two bunkers that you do not want to end up in.
Overall we enjoyed the course and it's facilities very much this maybe a course
that we come back to, after all we have not played the Park course yet.
Favourite Hole
Hole
11: 351 yard par 4 dogleg, downhill all the way.
You really need to think of what club to
hit off the tee here. Hit a wood dead straight & even the shortest
players off the tee may find they run out of fairway, take an iron & try
to draw it round the corner and you may find the pond in front of
the green. the best policy here is to hit an iron to the middle of
the fairway and let gravity do the rest.

Even the approach shot will have you thinking,
you are above the green so a club less than you think is the key here plus
the pond & bunker in front of the green will catch anything falling
short. Great hole.

Played this Saturday 21/10/06 as enjoyed my round (even though i played like a chopper)
Overall the course was in good condition though it does hold ALOT of water and many shots where pick and place. I don't think this affected the general play but did make the putts on very soggy greens interesting to say the least.
We used 2 for 1 vouchers which gave us a green fee of £30.00 each and I must say this is the very most you would want to pay. The course played well but in our opinion quite easy and from other reviews I would have expected more.
We played the Lakes Parks layout and by the sound of it the Lakes Woods is the better option.
I would say have a go but get a deal on the price and maybe wait for some better conditions to see it at its best.
