Course Review

Nice tree-lined, if a little short, course.
The trees and woodland around this course are mature and come into play on quite a few holes. Don't remember seeing any water on the course and a few of the par 4's are very reachable from the tee. This course is a good one to play if you are a high handicapper as most of the holes are a bit on the short side in length, mind you the greens are very tough to putt on. They were in good condition and the ball rolls well on them but they are certainly not flat, Tony had nine birdie putts in his round and did not make one of them.

Favourite Hole

Hole 16 & 18:
Tony liked hole 16 as it was quite a tough par4.
The perfect drive is up the left of the fairway but not too far as the fairway drops away down to the green and if you drive the ball too far then you will be left on the downslope. The green is protected by trees on the left and front right with a steep bunker on the left, it looks like a really nice shot when standing above the green in the fairway looking down to the green.

Hole 18 is shortish par 5, but tough to reach in two.
This hole is a dogleg to the right but the fairway only goes right at about 80 yards from the green. A long drive up the left of the fairway is the best shot but even then you can't see the green as it is tucked away round the corner, a good long fade may get you onto the green but more often than not you will be laying up with your second shot.

Avoid this course like the plague. It's a good course, well kept but dry in parts. The fairways tend to run across the hill rather than up/down. Views are very good. BUT..don't bother giving these people your money if you're a beginner or even a reasonable intermediate, as the members are pathetically snobbish and phone the clubhouse to complain about slow players (rather than ask to be let through). There's even a guy in a buggy who drives round the course moaning at slower players for the members. It all got too pathetic for us as we had a beginner in our 4 ball. We won't be going back. Not a good first impression.

Played this course today and was quite worried by the previous review. I have to say this guy must have had a particularly bad day. We arrived and cheekily asked the very friendly chap who takes the money if there was any chance of a bacon sandwich. They got the chef over from the Manor to make us one! The course itself is quite challenging and physically demanding without having too many banana skins. There were a couple of instances where the players behind us caught up but we waved them through with no problems at all. well worth the green fees but expect to be shattered afterwards!

£10 twilight golf is great value. The course is a decent challenge for medium to high handicappers. It's not too long so if you prefer to take a 3 iron or rescue club off the tee then you are not too disadvantaged. Lots of adverse cambers on the fairways so some clever placements of tee shots is required.

Not a bad course, good for high handicappers but I had 12 birdie putts most were missed thanks to the very difficult greens. Price was very resonable, althogh Ii wouldn't get a membership there because would get slightly boring being played over and over again. Overall good course, would play their again.

Shendish manor was a very amusing course. For instance the electronic shoecleener was a laugh... until it broke. Very cheap at only £5.00 on the weekday. The blind tee-off's were mind boggling for a begginers like myself and the set out for the course was fairly confusing as I got lost. But overall a good, fun course! Plus 33............RESULT!!!

At £10.00 twi'lite fee great value. OK so the first 7 won't excite the serious golfer but great for the 28+ guys like me. Friendly welcome too, first time around the reception took time out to explain the layout of the first few holes. Will play again.

Play quite reg here nice course, twilight rates very good but weekend morning rates a bit steep for the course, can be very busy.
