Course Review

Nice course with some tight wooded holes at the start, opens up after then and is more forgiving to the odd wayward shot. There is water on every hole after the 13th and the lake at the clubhouse makes the 17th and 18th holes very interesting.

Favourite Hole

Hole 17: 170 yard carry over water, it's all in the mind.
If there was no water here you wouldn't think twice about this shot, but there is water, a lot of water. I bet a few thousand pounds worth of golf balls are in that lake.

I have also played this course many times and mostly agree with your review. However, I would like to add that I think the opening 6 holes are some of the nicest that I have played.
My favourite holes are the 17th and 18th which also brings the water into play. After you tee-off on the par 4 18th you are left with a 90-100 yard shot over water to the green. The back of the green has out of bounds and there is water everywhere else! So it has to be an accurate shot, especially if it is a nice day and there are a lot of people watching from the adjacent veranda.

Myself and 17 others played this course on Saturday 12th August.
A beautiful course - extremely well kept. I topped the day by scoring a hole in one from the yellow tees on the 17th!!!!

A very well maintained course which is challenging but fair. The 17th is definitely THE hole. It's hard not to think about all that water. The 18th is no pushover either, as you have to be accurate with your drive to optimise the chip over yet more water to the island green. A bit expensive at £32.50.

Have played Silvermere a number of times. It is a good course, let down by the middle section which is quite dull, with a number of holes featuring very young trees. 17 and 18 are good holes, and unless you are playing with pretty decent players, someone is likely to loose a ball in the water on one or other of the two, which can change the complexion of a match completely. Silvermere has pretty good facilities, but in my view is much less good value than (for example) Pine ridge, which is vastly more scenic. Better than Stockley Park for similar money though.

I thought the course was in superb condition. It has a variety that makes it very interesting especially coming down the 17th and 18th. The first 6 holes are very tree lined and require a controlled shot. Great value for money, and extremely enjoyable.

The first 6 holes and last two are the only reason for playing this course. Rounds typically take 5 1/2 hours+ and you will witness some of the worst golf ever. Very disappointing!

I agree with some of the comments on the web page, the first six, the last two and the monster long 11th make this a good course when its in good condition. The facilities are good and the food is very good although a tad exspensive, overall a very tough course to battle against.

I've played this course 3 times (the last time in August 2005) and here's my comments...

The course has a few good holes and the pro-shop and range is impressive. My gripes...I've found the greens to be in quite poor condition. Most holes also do not have a ball cleaner. Even the card does not have a hole layout, just a line showing the direction of the hole. There's also no one checking up on slow play. Now these things are quite common if you were playing at a municipal course, but for £37.50 a round this is simply not on! You get the impression that you're paying for the facilities and not for course maintenance. My friend and I have decided never to play there again.

What a course - what a course - water course

I have played this course many times now and I've now come to realise how overrated it is compared to several other courses in the area. The first 6 holes are of a high class, winding their way through the silver birches with narrow fairways and plenty of undulating ground not to mention the bunkers. The course starts to disappoint after the cross the road to the 7th tee. The course becomes very open and less demanding from tee to green. Also, these holes are very similar to each other whereas the first 6 couldn't be any more contrasting from each other. The final two holes however are very pleasant both asking you to carry the ball directly over the water, especially good in matchplay!

These last two holes cannot redeem the course from the poor holes which the golfer will have just played, I would personally give this course 6/10 but if the whole course was as the first 6 are and a lot of extra distance was added it could be a championship contending course.

Silvermere has become commercial multinational. Its just a machine designed to squeeze every penny out of you. That said its a pretty good course. Everybody talks about the first 6 holes and then it becoming boring for a few holes.
1 - 6 good / great. (2 is pretty average when the tees forward like it always seems to be) True the 7th is pretty poor, but the 8th is a hard hole. The trees are finally starting to mature making its tee shot more of a challenge. The 2nd shot to the green is very long for a par 4 as its up hill and normally into the wind. 9 and 10 are ok-ish.
11 is a monster which is interesting.
12 dull.
13 fun with an interesting tee shot favouring the brave.
14 ok 15 ok 16 ok
17 and 18 are good holes. 18 is great when the bar terrace is packed and people cheer shout when balls land in the lake etc. Overall its good, but peak time green fees are £40 which is a lot IMO. If you can play it cheaper then its well worth it, especially at the right time of year. Finally, the food which used to be great has really dropped in quality. Probably now done in the microwave to increase the profit margin.
Overall 6.5 out of 10

Well again like everyone is repeatidly saying the first 6 holes are magnificent. I think Silvermere is a very fun and challenging course. I play off of 4 and I found it tesed my whole game. I Think Silvermere is more of a fun course in which you would go on for a corperate day. Overall i think if you can get on the course for a cheaper price, do it. But i do think its a bit over the top in price. 7.5/10
