Course Review

A parkland course with lots of undulations on the fairways, many mature trees & some terrific views of Oxford.

The first couple of holes are pretty straight forward but the 3rd will cause you to make a choice, what club to choose from the tee to lay up to that ditch, not only do you need to lay up but you need to be on the right hand side for an approach to the green.
The short 4th shouldn't give you too much trouble unless you hit your ball long, then it's onto the undulating fairways of the next few holes. Depending on your first bounce on the 9th fairway you could get to within reaching distance of the green from your drive so a good chance for a birdie could give you a good feeling at the turn.

More of those undulating fairways at the start of the back nine then comes a tricky par 3, 200 yards with no room for error on the right or left. A great view from the 13th tee, the 15th seems like a long par 3 but the shape of the hole does allow you to pitch short and still kick onto the green. The last gives you a good chance of a birdie if you are off the white tees otherwise it's a tough par 4 from the yellows.

The greens were in good condition but it looked as though they hadn't been cut that day. The bunkers are full of nice soft sand, not gravel, like some courses & all the approaches to the greens are closely mown. Overall a very enjoyable round.

Favourite Hole

Hole 13:   400 yard par 4 dogleg to the right.
We have described this hole as a dogleg to the right, but the fairway is in fact straight. It is the tee that is at 90° to the fairway that makes this hole interesting. Standing on the tee you have to make a choice, hit it straight and choose the right club to land in the fairway & not run through or try to clear the expanse of trees and aim as far right as you dare. Once on the fairway it slopes away to the right near the green so anything coming up short is going to fall away down the slope.

I have played here a quite few times and every time I play it is always the same beautiful course, so green and pleasant, every time. The green keepers and all the staff do a wonderful job.

A fool and their money are soon parted! This course, which I admit is nicely maintained, is nothing more than a pitch and putt. The golf, food and drink, lessons, range and pro's shop are all at premium prices (more than Wentworth for some things!).
