18th hole
Looking at the approach to the 18th hole (previously the 9th)

We re-visited this course after major earthworks were completed there and I'm afraid to say that the new layout has spoilt the course. The 9th and 18th holes used to be quite scenic with tree lined fairways leading to waterside greens set in front of the impressive clubhouse, now they are rather boring looking holes surrounded by mounds of earth.

In an earlier review we commented that the young looking course could mature into a rather fine looking one, well the people in charge have managed to ruin that line of thought along with removing all the beautiful trees and spoiling what was a nice country park set within a European Championship standard course..

2nd hole
Looking at the approach to the 11th green that is prtoected by water..

An update to this review - Parking is terrible at lunch time as all the people in the Business Park go to the clubhouse for lunch, we think the course should charge for parking and you get the fee back if you play golf.
An added complaint is the showers - you would think that a course of this standard could afford some decent showers instead of the cheap no temperature control push button ones.

Favourite Hole

Hole 11:
The best hole used to be the 18th but we have had to change our minds after new layout, the 11th with it's blind drive down to a green protected on all sides by water was our favourite.

I have played this course many times and I would like to add my comments. A great course with some challenging holes. You have to be fairly straight as the rough can be unforgiving and there are some large areas of dense bushes. The clubhouse balcony has a great view of several holes including the 9th & 18th greens and a couple of tee's. Altogether it is a great course and a good test of your game.

I have played this course several times now, each time in different weather conditions and different states of maintenance. The round we played yesterday was again a pleasure but hampered by some course management issues which really need to be sorted out before the summer gets into full swing. Firstly, the rough at the sides of the fairway is very unforgiving and with cut grass laying over the top makes it very difficult to find a good shot which has slightly stayed - unjustifiable punishment by poor ground-keeping. Secondly, the bunkers have a very thin layer of hard packed yellow/brown gritty sand on top of a hard clay/stony base which can become almost unplayable. The bunkers need more sand and need to be kept better so that the sand is not packed solid. Thirdly, the greens need a damn good rolling to take out all of the minor bumps, plus need people to repair their pitch marks - so action needs to be taken against the thoughtless players who think this is somebody else's job and not their responsibility.

I still had a good round of golf and will play the course again soon because it is such a pretty course with challenges. I just hope that the course management read this and take my suggestions to heart.

Well, I played on the 13th Aug 2000 at 14:30. I had a horrible round and it was made worse by a number of factors. The 1st being charged £34 (£35 after I was not given change). The 2nd being rushed from a 2 ball at 14:50 to a 4 ball as we arrived and then being prompted as to why I was not changing my shoes in the locker rooms, when I was now expected to tee off in 3 minutes without a warm up.
The greens had been aired and hence punched full of wholes and this made putting a nightmare. When a ball jumps once every foot you hit it makes getting 6 foot putts close a real problem.
The bunkers were unkempt and shallow and 1 had a huge hole in it and 2 other occasions I had to remove stones from around my ball. The rough was forgiving and short, until you hit into the bushes. The fairways were the only part I found outstanding. I do not recall a single bad lie on any fairway although it seems the type of people that they allow to play this course have little golf etiquette. Divots were not repaired, pitch marks as well. On 1 whole I had 3 pitch marks within 3 feet of my ball!
Play was slow and on 4 occasions a group of youngster behind us drove past us on the fairway! The course design is excellent with challenging driving holes and a a couple of tiered greens.
Unfortunately I've seen better conditions on courses charging 1/2 the price and for value for money I'd have to give it a 4/10.
Had the greens been in the shape I would have expected then maybe a 7/10. Unfortunately I will not be making the trip there again to see if things improve...

I played here in the summer of 2000 and was very disappointed at the poor value for money. It's obviously a good course which is lazily kept. At the green fee they charge you expect more.

I agree with all the previous comments about the poor value aspect of Stockley. It clearly will be a great course in twenty years time, when the trees have matured, but for now I don't even think it is that attractive or picturesque. You can also hear the sound of motorway traffic on many holes which is obtrusive on an expensive course. My view from playing several times is that the fairways and greens are reasonably well kept, but this isn't enough to justify the largish green fees. It is also always busy at the weekend and rounds can be slow.

The £10 green fees for seniors is good, but why no reduction on annual fees, as this would help us as well as you.

Stockley Park continues to lead the way in offering a quality golf course available to everyone, having read all the comments I am amazed that there are any serious golfers out there who appreciate the work involved in maintaining a course which was once a rubbish tip.

Having played many times, Stockley Park continues to be one of my favourite courses in both summer and winter. The new price structure offered in 2006 makes golf affordable for those unable to pay the rising cost of membership at other less challenging courses.

I played this course on Saturday 14th October for the first time. My friends and I have been looking for a course near SW London for some time now..... We think this course fits the bill, for us anyway, having played some awful courses that want £1500 p.a. for poorly maintained tracks. I think the management have taken note of the pitch mark problem as they had a big box of free p.m. repairers and were checking that everyone had one. At £37 it is expensive for a young course but if you pay the £150 for a privilege card you only have to play the course once a month to recoup this in discounted green fees. All in all we were impressed with the course and are considering getting the privilege card after 1st trying one more course.

Played Stockley park for the second time in 10 years. I am afraid the course condition has not improved. The fairways are sparse and you have more chance of the ball sitting-up in the rough. The bunkers have insufficient sand,or any sand at all. This a shame because the course could be very good and has a championship look. On the plus side the greens were ok. I suppose this is all reflected in the price.

Stockly Park on the whole is a quite disappointing experience, the number of changes that have occurred after the dumping of waste, has ruined the 1st, 9th & 18th holes. The 1st used to be a great challenge, now it has been replaced by a driving range. The cost in the weekend is outrageous for the quality of the course.
The bunkers are poor, the greens disappointing & the course has become quite easy with the changes, the assumption it’s to quicken the round so more golfers can be pay. The rumours are that Stockly received £4m for the land fill dumping, pity they can’t spend some of it on the course. Rating 4/10.

I played the course today for the first time in over 10 years and have to say that the condition of the course has deteriorated greatly and the changes to the course are shockingly poor. When you play the course it is very obvious how good it could be if it was maintained to the standard it should be and the stupid changes to the layout had not been made. Very sad.
