Course Review

Municipal parkland course with tree-lined fairway's, not much water but quite undulating. A word of warning if you do not like slow play then this course may not be for you.

The sixth hole on this course has to be one of the toughest par 4's we have ever played 466 yards all uphill. If you get a 5 here you have played it well. On some of the holes the greens are quicker than they look so some of the putts you get are tricky. The back nine are slightly easier and if you have held your round together up to the eleventh you could get back in the clubhouse with a very good score.

Favourite Hole

Hole 8: Par 5 that looks reachable in 2.
This par 5 is uphill all the way making it very hard to reach the green in 2. If you are going to you need a good drive up the left hand side. If you end up on the right then you have an outcrop of trees to negotiate over to reach the green. Even when you get to the green there is a very severe slope from left to right on it.

I can recommend this course as one of the most interesting municipals in the area - it's got some real terrain and the greens have some genuine borrow unlike most pay and play courses.
The only real downside is that drainage is poor so if it's been raining three or four of the fairways become VERY boggy.

This course is very difficult, with some very long par 4's, which will test even the most competent golfer. However sometimes especially in the summer the undulations of the course can be rather extreme, causing your ball to fly off in bizarre directions. During the winter I strongly recommend NOT playing at this course as the drainage is terrible and the fairways become so wet that you often loose your ball in the fairway.

Very good course. For a municipal, nothing short of brilliant. Very attractive course on undulating mature parkland. The greens are really quite quick and are contoured, the fairways are, in places, quite narrow. A good test and likely to result in above average scoring for high handicappers. The par five has a very small green and trouble at the back. Not usually a good plan to try to get there in two, however big a hitter you are. 5/5 for value.

For a public course, it plays superbly. the only downside is the drainage on the lower holes, but measures are being made to improve this. if you play to your handicap on this course, then you have played very well.
10/10, much recommended.

I played this course and I thought it was crap. It might have something to do that I had 15 pints the night before. 3/10

The best municipal in the area, fairly short, but a few interesting holes. The greens can be very difficult when running fast. Worth the green fee.

I've played this course many times over the last 10 years and I have seen many changes. Since the old head green keeper left ( keith ) the course has changed for the worse. The new head green keeper ( linden ) has deemed it necessary to bring the fairways right out, making it almost impossible to play a bad shot because of the lack of rough. Almost everything is fairway...even the tee banks!!! The 'snack bar' has also gone down the drain since tom sold the place. Now micky gale (galagher) and steve littlejohn own it and its never been as bad. The food is well over priced, and is never cooked properly. The bar and kitchen is crawling with ants, the staff wear filthy clothes and all have very bad and rude attitudes. I would rate the course 5/10 and the snack bar/carvery 1/10.....very dissapointing....bring back keith and tom.

Played here on the 21st June 07 for the first time. I play off 16 but this course made me look like a beginner. Tee to green I was ok, mainly due to the fact that I hit the ball a fair way. Fairways slope in all directions, tee shots can bounce 100 yards left or right, also you're left with a lot of 2nd or 3rd shots onto greens you cannot see the bottom of the flag. The Greens were probably the most difficult I've played. If you're not accurate with your pitching or chip shots you'll end up off the green as a lot of them slope away off the edges. I lost count of how many 3 putts I did. I'm not the best putter anyway but these were tough. I would like to play there again because it is a good test of anyone's standard. I did feel sometimes however it would be nice to have a flat lie for a change. No complaints though, its a testing course so if you shoot about your handicap then its a job well done. I didn't, I went 9 shots over. If I putted better it may have been a different story.
