Verulam is a short but challenging golf course. Although short in
yardage accuracy is the key. On most tee's you are faced with out of
board hazards right or left ranging from train lines on holes 1 & 2 to
water hazards. The best hole on the course in my opinion is the Par 4
15th. A good drive is required to reach an upper level of fairway which
has out of boards both sides. The second although no more than a 7 to
a wedge has to be straight as the raised green is very small and undulating.
The course is in good condition with some pleasant holes. There is no
need for the driver on every hole as it is more important to be straight
rather than long. The course can become crowded on a few holes as they cross
such as the 4 & 9th which share fairways. Make sure you observer the right of
way notice , or you will quickly be told off by very unpleasant members who play
off 24 and can't hit a cows arse with a bango!

I played the course on Sunday with a collegue , as part of our stay at Sopwell
House. We were both very impressed with the quality of the course and the general
layout of the complex. We are looking forward to playing it again in the near
future.
