We played West Surrey on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in mid-September. We were made to feel very welcome by the staff in the pro shop. We teed off at around 12 noon and pretty much had the course to ourselves. And what a course. Designed by Herbert Fowler of Walton Heath fame this course is a beauty with holes carved through established woodland and rolling countryside. The course was in excellent condition and is a very demanding test of golf when played from the white tees. Each hole sets it own unique challenge demanding concentration and careful attention to course management whilst sustaining the golfer's interest throughout the round. Particularly challenging holes on the outward 9 include the 5th and 7th both of which demand very long 1st and 2nd shots to make par. The 8th is stunningly attractive from the tee and is followed by a well placed half-way hut. The back 9 is less demanding with shorter par 4s. Nevertheless, it is equally enjoyable and rewarding with the 18th tee providing fantastic views back to the club house. I strongly recommend this course. Whilst green fees are £50 each the course was largely ours to enjoy and we were able to complete our round in around 4 hours. The members we met were charming and friendly. This course is well worth a visit and within 1 hours drive of Gerrards Cross and the Chalfonts.
