Course Review

Nice tree-lined 9 hole course.

This course is a little short but is great for beginners as the greens are quite big for a small course. The greens were in excellent condition and very well maintained for the time of year.

There are a few water hazards on some holes, just in front of the 1st tee and to the right of the 4th are two that spring to mind with the ditch on the 3rd also coming into play, the wind does become a factor at times. On hole 7, 166 yards, we were reaching the green with a 9 iron!

Favourite Hole

Hole 9:   402 yard par 4 dogleg to the right.
The tee shot is everything on this hole, hit it too long and you will run out of fairway. Try to cut it round the corner and you might not make the middle of the fairway. If you do not make the middle or the left side of the fairway then you may well be left with overhanging branches blocking your approach shot.

Horrible course. Played it when it was raining and all we could hear above us was the electricity pylons sizzling as we teed off. This with the smokiest and dirtiest club house I have ever witnessed has probably shortened my life expectancy by five years!

I think Alex is being a little harsh here - this is, after all a beginners course - they do not claim to be anything else. I have played here many many times when starting out and it really helped improve my game, all 9 holes are good to play and there are plenty of hazards in the shape of ponds, trees, bushes etc. Huge fairways allow for the beginner, and the course is actually very well maintained for such a small venue.

The Tee's are nice (in better weather) and the greens are actually not bad, OK, not in top notch but the course is really playable and fun for a few hours - can get very frustrating as you can get stuck behind beginners who take 40 shots per hole - but we all started somewhere once!

Go there remembering its a beginners course and you will have a good couple of hours, yes the pylons hum and crackle but then you pays yer money....... £10 for 9 holes.

Clubhouse is reminiscent of a 1970's council house front room - nasty, but this is because its stuck in the middle of nowhere and is forever getting robbed! Staff all friendly and bar, although poor, looks over the 18th green, amusing watching people divot their way up the fairway (sometimes me!)

Owned by the same people as Pine Ridge - and makes a good alternative to those starting out worried about playing a busy course!

I agree with Tom, the course is what the course is, a great little beginners course, cheap and cheerful. It fills a very important niche in the golfing world, particularly in expensive Surrey. Its affordable for beginners, not to challenging. It is fun watching people duff there way back up to the clubhouse. Best time to play is in Autumn, the treescape is very pretty, shame about the golf!!!

Great little course, miles better than Lavender Park in Ascot and Goal Farm in Brookwood, which are probably the main competition. Greens are in great condition although the 2nd gets a bit soft. Best time to play is Sunday Morning during the summer/Autumn although next to the busy A322 you could be miles away from anywhere. Like the others have said the bar patio sits just behind the 9th green always a good place to sit and dodge the odd golf ball. Nice bar staff too ;o)

This is the worst course I have ever played on. there were leaves on the fairways and divots which were never replaced .There were divots on the greens and pylons buzzing when you teed off. The driving range looks like a big field with a few flags.the clubhouse is smoky and dirty.

I play on this course ever saturday or sunday and I think it is a good course to play but the driving range needs to have the signs saying how much yard you have it but it is better then any other golf course.

Some of the negative comments about this course seem a little harsh to me. I've played this course a few times now and whilst I'm only a beginner it's a great place to practice shot making and some of the fairways are quite wide so they're very forgiving of the odd dodgy tee shot. The greens are in fair nick and if you've only got the time (or the stamina) for 9 holes then this is a good, although short, option.

Overall, the course is good, excellent value (£12.50) the facilities okay and the staff friendly.

As a lady member of this club I think the course is very well-maintained when you see some of the hackers that go round and don't repair their divots of pitch marks. The green keepers do their utmost best. The staff are lovely but they can only work with what they are given. Maybe the owner should ply more money into this club. A whole re-furb could make it a little goldmine. New driving range (like Pine Ridge) re-tarmac the drive and build a new clubhouse. Billingbear can do it - so come on Windlemere!
