Southwood Golf Club – Hampshire
Southwood is a council owned public pay and play course that is very well maintained, the fairways, tees and greens were all in good condition, one complaint was the position of the yellow tees, they were nearly all up with the red tees.
The first few holes are quite open with the fairways of other holes allowing wayward shots to be recovered quite easily. After these few holes the trees tighten up and wayward shots are punished with no approach to the green available. The well placed tree on the 5th & the bunker on the 9th make you think where to place you tee shot.
The second nine, we thought was the more interesting although we couldn’t play the 17th as it was water logged! The course seemed a little short, maybe because we were always level or at times in front of the red tees, it seemed as though you could go round with just a 4 iron off the tee.
